Welcome to the Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo!
Rick Sander, CEO, Tuesday Sept 14, 2021
As ubiquitous as the automobile is (after all, they have been mass-produced for over 100 years), it is easy to forget all of the technology that goes into them. This is even true of electric vehicles (EVs), which are significantly simpler in design and implementation than internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Shows like this year’s Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology (EHVT) Expo in Novi, Michigan, which is co-located with the Battery Show, are a good reminder of exactly what goes into these vehicles. This year’s combined show has over 600 exhibitors across forty product categories from auto components to vehicle manufacturing systems.
As a designer and manufacturer of Made-In-The-USA DC fast chargers (DCFC) for medium- and heavy-duty (M/HD) electric vehicles such as transit buses, school buses, delivery vehicles, refuse trucks, and other high battery capacity vehicles, we go to and participate in these shows for a lot of reasons. These include meeting with customers, finding new customers, and talking with existing and potential suppliers. It also includes learning about new trends and technologies, building new partnerships, and supporting the larger EV industry. But most of all, these shows graphically illustrate the amount of energy our industry is putting into innovating new products and technologies. An example of this is our latest EV charger remote dispenser, the RES-D3-CS20. This remote dispenser works with all of our existing Power Control System (PCS) units. More importantly, multiple D3 dispensers can be connected to a single PCS, and with our Serial Power Switching (SPS) technology, they can be connected serially and the system will automatically sequence between dispensers, simplifying fleet charging operations.
If you are looking for made in the USA high-power DC fast charging systems for those EVs, look to Rhombus Energy Solutions. Our market-leading bi-directional EV charging systems (which are designed from the start for the needs of fleet operators) are designed and built in the USA. Rhombus also excel in the design of high-power smart inverters for next-generation renewable energy and energy storage deployments. Our expertise in energy management system (EMS) software is also embedded in our VectorStat EMS controller and software which is embedded in our EV charging systems and smart inverters. We have built over a thousand V2G-capable high-power, high-reliability chargers and bi-directional smart inverters for a variety of different sizes and classes of EVs.
